I played the game through beta and am currently having a blast in the retail version. Tonight my agency rocked a Conquest point (alliance vs. alliance) and then quickly defended our hard earned factory. Using my jetpack, grenades, and magma lance rocket I made quick work for the enemy trying to sneak up on us.

If that at all sounded interesting to you, I HIGHLY suggest giving this game a shot.

If I had to sum up it’s gameplay, it would be like the spirit of Tribes living inside game types of more popular games like TF2 or Enemy Territory, with a persistent flavor. Really fun game, and I’m sure it will be around for a LONG LONG time.

Don’t be afraid of the OPTIONAL subscription fee, you can have a blast in the general content and never need to pay a monthly fee, which is uncommon to any game which has persistent servers. However, if you really want to excel and get a really deep team experience, Conquest is up your alley.

EDITED — 06-25-2010

Well, all I have to say is that Hi-Rez changes things so fast that I can’t comment without being wrong. Thanks to the comments, I have re-examined the game and must revise my entire review. I have played the Demo and the game at a friends. He owns the game but did not subscribe. Now subsciptions are completely waived and he has access to all facets of gameplay.

All that exists from a previous 400+ word hammering of the games content and exclusions is below.

– They changed up the maps a bit on PvE and announced more changes to come.

— The minions are the same but in more suprise locations for better gameplay

— The bosses are the same but more frequent and in more suprise locations.

— I should add that the AI is not bad but predictable at times, although you will need a team to win the map.

That is all that is left of the criticism.

With all of the changes and because of the companies positive attitude, I recommend this game to anyone.

About the game:

There are 4 different classes. Assault, Engineer, Recon/sniper, Medic. You can level up Diablo 2 style, skill levels. You can enhance armor and weapons at a crafting bench but if you like you can just go to the market and by speacialty items. The game is fun co-op against the AI but I recommend you get into team based play as a mercenary or join an agency for pvp. They have 5 or 6 different modes of PvP and teams seem well balanced. They have a few other game modes coming soon that should be exciting and keep the gameplay fresh.

I am sure I am missing some things and will update as I explore the game.

Here are the features I enjoyed so far:

– The game promotes a team effort strategy for victory

– Teams seem balanced

– Lower level players can level up quickly

– Lower level players have opportunity to take out the highest level players -with some help of course

– character models are impressive

– Hi-Rez willing to work toward solutions to problems is impressive

The Goods:

Colorful nvidia graphics make for a sensational ‘Tribes’-like battles.

Game-play is uniquely balanced and player options create a strategic style so that players may master their skills against tougher opponents.

The Bads:

Installation from Steam has some issues. If you do, “verify your download” in the options menu (right click).

No vehicles.

My Requests:

A sequel with ‘undersea vehicles’.

As a beta tester, with in an hour of the announcement, I have pre-ordered two of these limited editions..

This game is face paced as in for those FPS’ers its pace is sort of in between the speed of pvp with Halo and Unreal. So not as crazy face paced as unreal, and not as slow paced as halo, good in between feel. Addictive.. but not in the bad way as some might spend 40+ in wow a week as I have raiding.. Kinda like Modern warfrace addictive.. once you pvp you will not want to stop. (assuming you have a great team working besides you).

Find some Friends and get in this game , pre-order to get into the beta.. and Enjoy.. see you there

Seeing as how you get a few nifty in game /claimable items with this box. While with steam you get nadda , and with the next update – 1.3/Sandstorm the game will have a much more rewarding style of play for an MMOer that come from games like WoW and EQ2. While still holding on to the gear wont be what all of the endgame is about philosophy. this game is worth buying now to get your PvP rush…not so much if you like crafting, dungeon crawls or exploring vast wilderness…yet! 1.3 should fix a few of those issues(if not all) and with the pace at which they update its not to far off till this is one rocken FPS/RTS MMO.
