Developers Chat Thursday September 10th

By

Well I see alot of fun happening tomorrow on the irc chat the developers are having.  Alot of stuff that was very cool in beta has been nerfed into oblivion the game everyday become more and more geared towards PVP.  I really wanted this to be a more PVE oriented game.  But I keep seeing nerfs coming down the barrel that look very PVP oriented.

If there are any questions you want asked CF is going to have representation at the Developers Chat tomorrow evening.  So post any questions you would like asked.  I’m also going to try to post a full transcript of the developers chat as soon as it is over.  I’m personally going to ask why building a thematic toon I get my arse handed to me by henchmen.

And defnitely interested why I’m playing a game to feel like a superhero and I’m not even attaining that unless I pursue the OP powers.  Mini Mines, Shotgun Blast, Pyre, and Regeneration just to name a few.

Greetings

I’ve seen a lot of post about this. I still don’t really understand. Why is everyone so concerned about “themed characters” and ideas like getting bonuses from staying within a certain pwerset?
To me, this seems like a recipe to stiffle creativity and experimentation. People keep saying that the way it is now, everyone will have the same build. I haven’t seen this at all. I have noticed that in PVP there seems to be a few types of builds that are pretty common. But since it’s still early in the game, and they are still making several changes and balancing powers, I’m not really worried yet.
The one thing I would like to see in PVP is a bigger arena. The area is just too small! What it usually resorts to is hitting the TAB until you find a close target and then pounding your attack button. Half the time I can’t even see who I’m attacking. It would be nice to be able to zoom out a lot more. Be able to see the entire arena (if kept the same size) or a larger part of it (if made bigger).

@freshrod I definitely agree with the bigger arena issue. It does really suck being in such a tight space.

On the thematic issue thou. I personally want a theme for a toon not for it to look like a mish mash of powers thrown together. I want to look like and feel like a superhero that got doused in radioactive chemicals and now I can shoot green fire out of my hands. But wait where did I learn the ninja skills and why do I have robots following me and damn I’m pretty good with a gun too.

For alot of people its all about Concept.

Haha… yeah I see your point. I wish there was a way you could choose the effect and power, but the name and animation could be changed. I like the choice for perks and the end of missions. Wish it could be like that.
I want a shield for my Uncle Samson!!! (think Captain America)
But in the end, after they get done balancing, I’m sure there will be a lot of different builds available, whichever way you want to go.
I mean, I think everyone realizes (or should) they can’t plan for every type of character. The frame sets are really pretty basic. And I think it’s great that you aren’t tied to them. Just think about a comic team, like X-Men or JLA, and how you would build any of those characters sticking to a single powerset. It’s almost impossible.
And several powersets don’t offer many good powers in certain areas. Take my guys ranged attack. Thowing stars? That’s it. Looks like I need Hurl. (which to me sounds like Puke, but whatever…)

I think balance is a concept in itself that can not be achieved. To strive to reach that goal is a noble act and not one which is fruitless but to assume that balance itself can be reached is foolish. Balance would be perfection which we know can not be attained.
